Five-Day Awareness to Action Enneagram Certification

Published  December 2016

In November 2016, District of Columbia area residents had the opportunity to attend the Awareness to Action Enneagram Certification program, led by Certified Enneagram Teachers, Mario Sikora and Maria Jose Munita.

Both GWIEA Board Chairman Dr. Wonhee Kang and Board Secretary Albert Wedemeyer made the personal committment, attended and certified with the Awareness to Action team the week of November 9-13, 2016.

About his experience in the training program, Al Wedemeyer had this to say: "I have always wanted to get an Enneagram training certification. When I learned of the DC-area training, facilitated by two of my favorite teachers--Mario Sikora and Maria Jose Munita (both past presidents of the Global IEA)--I jumped at the chance to take this course."

Wedemeyer continued, "Although I was initially interested in the Enneagram from a spiritual perspective, I appreciated that Mario and Maria made this a very practical calls, so that it can be used in a business setting. I also got a lot of clarification on the subject of the three insincts or driving energies of Subtypes. In Sikora's class the three Subtypes are called Preserving (a.k.a, Self-Preservation), Navigating (a.k.a., Social) and Transmitting (a.k.a. One-to-One)."

Wedemeyer also enjoyed the intimate, small class nature of the training course. "Since this was a small class, with students from several countries including Brazil, Chile and Korea, there was a lot of time for questions and some excellent cultural sharing," he said.

Would Wedemeyer train with Sikora and Munita again? "Both Mario and Marai are extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the Enneagram, so it was truly a pleasure to learn from them. Whenever I can, I am happy to attend their events," Wedemeyer said.

IEA Conference 2016 in Minneapolis

Pamela Donnelly represents GWIEA

Published July 2016

Board Vice-Chair Pamela Perkins Donnelly represented GWIEA at the Minneapolis July 20, 2016 IEA Conference Assembly of Affiliates and Chapters (GAAC) meeting. "I was impressed by the warm welcome I received as a GAAC representative. And I was intrigued to watch the larger oranization of the IEA hold governance meetigns and illicit feedback from its group members," Donnelly said,

She continued: "There were many informative stories of other Chapters And AFfiliates beginnings and evlutions. Essentially, I learned a LOT, and that was before the conference even began! As a Board Member of a newly formed Regional Chapter, attendance at this conference was instrumental."

As an organization, the IEA began holding conferences in 1994, over 20 years ago. When asked why attend an Enneagram-focused conference annually, Donnelly said:

"Almost like an individual, the collective understanding of the Enneagram isn't truly static. It constantly evolves and deepens. New people inthe Enneagram field of study will continue to bring their own insights and understandings to the literature. Then, as a whole, both we the students, as well as the literature itself, are elevated.

"Like parents who have children in their 20s and then again in their 30s or 40s, there are significant changes in how they parent the later children. It's almost liek that with Enneagram understandings.

"When we first meet the Enneagram, there's a lot of type-focus an automatic behavior. As we deepen our own understandings, internal and external perspectives will shift. Attending an international conference focused on the Enneagram has the potential to fast-track those understandings and shifts," she concluded.

If you missed the IEA 2016 Annual Conference in Minneapolis, you can make plans now to attend the 2017 Conference in San Antonio.
